在气球上扎芝麻，能有多难？
在本期节目中，山东中医药大学针灸推拿学院副院长马玉侠教授给我们带来了一场别开生面的演示——一只鼓鼓的气球，表面粘着几十粒芝麻，她手持直径仅0.25毫米的毫针，对准目标。针尖落下的瞬间，在场所有人都替她捏了一把汗：气球薄得透光，稍有偏差就会炸响。马教授果断刺下，扎中芝麻，气球纹丝不动。她曾凭此技艺一分钟精准扎落24颗芝麻。“重一分则球破，偏一分则落空”，针灸的力道与精度，就在这毫厘之间。
现场，体验者也尝试了合谷穴针刺，针感酸胀发热，疼痛远轻于想象。马教授也提醒，针灸必须选择正规机构和有资质医师。
除了针灸，马教授还有一手“独门绝技”——脐疗。作为齐鲁高氏脐灸流派传承人，马教授解释：肚脐（神阙穴）内联五脏六腑，外达四肢百骸，和奇经八脉、十二经脉密切相通。在这个部位施以艾灸、穴位贴敷或是拔罐，就可以通过药物、穴位渗透和经络传导（起到）调理全身疾病的作用——这就是“小肚脐治大病”的道理。
她的团队还参与国际、国家标准制定，用现代科研让古老疗法从“经验”走向“证据”，让中医外治更好地走向世界。她说：“中医不只是书本上的方药，也不只是简单的望闻问切。它是可以走进千家万户的生活智慧……希望更多人了解中医、相信中医、受益于中医。”
How hard can it be to pierce a sesame seed on a balloon?
In this episode, Professor Ma Yuxia, Deputy Dean of the School of Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Tuina, Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, delivers a breathtaking demonstration. A fully inflated balloon, its surface dotted with dozens of sesame seeds, stands before her as the ultimate test of precision. Holding a filiform needle merely 0.25 millimeters in diameter, she takes aim. The moment the needle tip descends, everyone present holds their breath: the balloon is so thin it is translucent; the slightest deviation would trigger an explosion. Professor Ma strikes decisively—piercing the sesame seed while the balloon remains perfectly still. She has performed this feat with precision, once removing 24 sesame seeds in a single minute. "Apply a fraction too much pressure and the balloon bursts; deviate a hair off target and you miss the seed entirely." The force and precision of acupuncture are measured in millimeters.
On site, the participant also tried acupuncture at the Hegu point (LI4). The needling sensation was sore, swollen, and warm — far less painful than imagined. Professor Ma also cautioned that acupuncture must be performed at licensed institutions by qualified practitioners.
Beyond acupuncture, Professor Ma has another signature technique: umbilical therapy. As a successor of the Qi-Lu Gao family's Umbilical Moxibustion School，Professor Ma explains that the navel—the Shenque point (CV8)—connects connects internally to the Five-zang Organs and the Six-fu Organs, and externally reaches all the limbs and bones, closely linked to the Eight Extraordinary Meridians and the Twelve Regular Meridians.
Applying moxibustion, acupoint plastering, or cupping at this locationcan, through medicinal penetration and meridian conduction, regulate diseases throughout the entire body—this is the principle of "a small navel treating major illnesses."
Her team also contributes to the formulation of international and national standards, using modern scientific research to guide ancient therapies from empirical practice toward evidence-based medicine, and to help external TCM therapies gain wider recognition on the world stage.
She says: "TCM is not merely herbal formulas in books, nor is it simply the four diagnostic methods — inspection, auscultation & olfaction, inquiry, and palpation. It is living wisdom that can enter every household...I hope more people will come to understand TCM, trust in TCM, and benefit from TCM."
